1. Clear the Play Store cache

In most cases, all that must be done is clearing the Play Store cache, which is where the application holds its temporary data and helps your device load the Play Store faster. Clearing the cache would clear this temporary data, which might do the trick for you.

To clear the cache, go to Settings > Apps > All Apps > Google Play Store and then tap on Clear Cache.

2. Clear the Play Store App data:

Clearing the Play Store data would restore the application to its initial state, which means any data or saved information will be gone. It’s like setting up your Google Play Store once again.

In order to clear the data, Settings > Apps > All Apps > Google Play Store and then finally tap on Clear App Data.

3.  Uninstall Play Store Updates:

Sometimes, an update does more harm than good, and you need to revert to a version that was working before the update messed everything up.

To uninstall updates, go to Settings > Apps > All Apps > Google Play Store and finally tap on Uninstall Updates.

4. Clear Data and Cache of Google Play Services

Google Play Services is basically an application that allows communication between different applications on your Android device. Clearing the data and cache on this application might help fix the issue. This will most probably fix the Google Play Store not downloading issue on Android phones.

To do this, go to Settings > Apps > All Apps > Google Play Services and tap on Clear Data and Clear Cache.

5. Reset Your Google Account:

If the Google Play Store still isn’t working, you might want to try to reset your account. This basically means having to remove your account and add it again.

To reset your account, go to Settings > Accounts > Google, tap on the menu at the top, and tap Remove.
Next, go to Settings > Accounts > Add New Account and simply add the same account again.

6. Factory Reset Your Device:

If everything else fails, the Google Play Store will still not download. Then, you always have that factory reset option in order to revert to factory conditions with everything in working condition and start again from scratch.

In order to factory wipe, go to Settings > Backup & Reset and simply tap on Reset Device.

    • Then the only problem could be in the Google Play Store servers. Happened to me a month or so ago. Turned out the Google play store was having server problems in my country.

      • I finally got it figured out, for me anyhow: I disabled the Auto_update function in Playstore settings, then, UNINSTALLED playstore to factory version. RE-BOOTED, Went to playstore app as soon as reboot completed, searched for apps needing updates, then clicked on each app one at a time. 7 Updates then successfully updated. I am using a rooted MXQ box with a NEXBOX firmware update to lollipop.

  1. I tried everything. Even a factory reset didnt work. So i removed all the caches/updates again (play store/services and downloadmanager) then i pressed update all on google play store. He started to update all my apps then he got stuck because google play services was updating. After he was done i canceled all the updates then i tried again. Then suddenly google play store stopped. So i tried again, after he was updated. I dont know what happened but now it works again. :):)
