How to Fix Nexus 6 Camera Lag

Nexus 6 Camera Lag

After the Android Marshmallow update, I was facing this weird Nexus 6 camera lag. Also when I was scrolling the comments on youtube my nexus 6 used to lag. I was looking for it’s when I figured out that many users are also facing similar problems. Some people have reported that orange lines appear on the screen while taking pictures in sun. And when they try to take number of pictures at a time the capture button is grayed out and it does not allows to take more pictures.

Nexus 6 is one of the most loved Android smartphone in the market. This camera lag is common issue for most of the users. While looking into the issue, I figured out that the camera lag usually arises while taking HDR pictures. and the capture button grays out when the system has to process the already taken pictures. I also noticed that if I am using camera on my nexus 6 and I switch to another app without closing it then the phone lags.

Note: This guide also works for Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

  1. Thanks a lot! This really helped me with my Nexus 6 (geo location off, battery optimisation off, case cleaning)
Now camera works without any lags.

    • I dont know man. Try factory resetting your phone. for me it worked. Thats why I put it up for public. so everyone can make use of this trick.

    • Alright, let’s stop with all the “reset your phone” nonsense. That’s not going to fix it and if you think it did you’re sadly mistaken. If you want a true solution, look for Camera NX v 5.4.1 ARM NOZSL. It is considerable faster with next to no lag. It’s still the Google Camera app but optimized and tweaked to stop the lag.

  2. I did all this and I see a moderate improvement.

My problem is the speed of taking photos in whatsapp or fb messenger (from the time you press “take photo” until it appears in a whatsapp chat)… my Nexus 6 lags my Nexus 5 – approximately: 4 seconds vs 1.5 seconds.

Checked on Nexus 5 and, battery optimization is ON, so is photo location… and still it is faster (whatsapp photos)

  3. I think a huge issue is the updates the Nexus 6 received. It’s not the camera app per-say, but the operating system is getting bigger and more bloated than the nexus 6 can digest and run perfectly smooth. Im almost considering rolling the OS back a generation.

The HDR quality is fantastic in the default camera app but there are alternatives to consider. Seriously give ‘CAMERA FV-5’ (app) a try. It’s as professional as a camera app can get, it runs pretty fast too. Currently Im using Android 7 on the Nexus 6, and FV-5 runs fast BUT there’s no apparent way to capture HDR with this app unless you do it manually.

  4. I’m using nexus 6 mobile. Mobile problem is I take a video OIS not working it’s my phone problem or not…..?

  5. factory reset don’t Do the trick
