We all, while using Android apps or playing games, get frustrated by Ads and pop-up windows. Most of the times we are in the middle of something and suddenly from nowhere an Ad appears and covers the whole screen of smartphone. To proceed our task, you have to close the Ad. We can do a lot of things to prevent our desktops from pop-up windows but nothing on smartphones. But now you can block Ads in Android apps and games.
There are two ways to block ads in Android devices. One method works with the rooted devices and other method works for the devices which are without root. If you don’t know whether your device is rooted or not then you can check by following method.
Check for rooted device
You can perform the following tasks to confirm.
- Go to Google Play Store.
- Search for “Root Checker” or go to this link.
- Install this app.
Root Checker is available on Google Play Store. You can install it for free. It will check your device and will show you whether your device has a root access or not. After confirmation, you can follow the method suitable for you.
Block Ads in Android device With Root
If your device is rooted then in order to install anything from outside Play Store, you have to enable Unknown Sources. For that, go to Settings > Security Settings. Here, just check Unknown sources.
After enabling Unknown Sources, follow the link given below to download Adblock Plus APK to your device.
After launching Adblock Plus, you will be prompted to grant access to Superuser. Tap on “Grant” to proceed the process.
Now, Adblock Plus will offer you subscription options. Choose any, which suits your requirements. You can also choose between Block all Ads or just Inappropriate Ads. Ads with sounds or video Ads are included in inappropriate ads category.
Block Ads in Android device Without Root
You have to do some extra effort for the device without root. Change the proxy settings and you are all set. Now, follow the steps enlisted bellow.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap on “Wifi”.
- Now you will see all the connections. Tap and keep holding the connection you generally use. (If you use more than one connections then do it for all.)
- Now, select “Modify Network”.
- Tap on “Show Advanced Options”.
- Here, you’ll find Proxy Settings. Switch it to manual.
- After this, you will see more options. Now, change the entry of Proxy Hostname to localhost.
- Now, change Proxy Port number. Proxy Port number will be the one which Adblock Plus has given to you.
Note: You can hide the Adblock Plus icon from notification drawer. For that, go to Settings > Apps > Adblock Plus. Here, just uncheck the Show Notification box.
